President Muhammadu Buhari And The Melodrama: When Will This Change Begin?

Sometime ago, President Muhammadu Buhari began a campaign of 'Change Begins With Me' at the Banquet Hall in the Aso Villa. The claim was that, there was a need for every Nigerian to kickstart the change they yearn for. While they claim the campaign was not a big budget one, there were calls for individuals to propagate the messages everywhere they can.

Looking on from that time, I find it extremely difficult to see any real change anywhere, not even in the character of the Federal Government. Before the APC government came, there was a Nigerian state, and there was a Nigerian Federal Government, which functioned in a certain manner. Since the emergence of the APC at the National government, there hasn't been any change in the way FG speaks, works or functions. Same story, same characterization by different characters (people).

Under the past administration of Presidents Obasanjo, Yaradua, and Goodluck; there were unkept promises to the civil servants working at the Federal Universities. Now, there are not just unkept promises, but unkept Federal universities everywhere. It looks more like the same old order. When will the change actually begin at the FG?

Some days ago, the 'Resume or Resign Campaign' was launched in Abuja by 'Charly Boy'. And just as the old times, they were attacked by the Nigerian Police Force. Just yesterday, the Protesters were attacked in Wuse Market in Abuja, by Pro-Buhari MOB; while the Nigerian Police Force was merely observing the procession or the pandemonium. One only wonders, "What has changed in Nigeria from the Military dictatorship era to the "civilian" era we claim we are in. In the past, Nigerians could not voice their dissatisfaction with their Federal and State governments; and even now, in the the age of 'Change Begins With Me'; every protest of the people is perceived as being political. The question is, why are the Nigerian politicians so much scared of politics? Why a people call themselves POLITICAL party, and yet detest political activities or movements. What is wrong with our political system in Nigeria for God sake?

If the truth must be told, there hasn't been any difference in Nigeria; not in government, nor governance - it is only same repeated story by different actors. When will Nigerians then demand change in Nigeria?
